Japanese Girl and Boy Paper Dolls

|
Kathy Allert
1991
Far Eastern history and culture combine in this engaging paper doll collection featuring authentically garbed Japanese youngsters. Artist Kathy Allert has created two charming figures, along with 15 full-color costumes for each, plus headdresses, toys and other accessories.
Paper doll enthusiasts can dress endearing little Hanako in a contemporary skirt and jacket for school, a floral print summer kimono, a traditional Ainu outfit worn by Hokkaido islanders, a lovely bride robe and 11 other finely detailed items of apparel. Akira, her companion, comes with a samurai outfit (complete with sword), a brightly checked Rice Festival costume, a dramatic robe for a Kabuki play, a judo outfit and 11 other accurately rendered costumes. Colorful hats, wigs, a carp kite and Japanese lanterns complement their wardrobes. Both dolls are printed on sturdy stock; the costumes are on lightweight paper that makes them easy to cut out.
This entertaining and educational collection will delight paper doll enthusiasts, as well as social studies teachers, costume designers and anyone fascinated by Japanese life and culture.
